In this course, we’ll be working on creative writing, editing your own work, and making your prose tight and concise. We’ll start with some exercises to get you writing and then keep tightening that writing up, but we’ll also have you turn your piece on its ear so you don’t get stuck in a rut.
The goal in this course is to help you learn about drafting, revising, editing, viewpoint, and creativity. Because becoming a better writer is often about pushing your own boundaries and doing things you usually wouldn’t, there will be some of that, too. It’s also about putting in the work, from a rough draft to a quality piece of writing.
Though this course will be hard, making you write in ways you might be unaccustomed to, it should be a bit of fun, too. Writing is about imagination, invention, creating stories — whole worlds! universes! — from your own mind. And for a writer, that should be enjoyable.
So take the exercises seriously, but have fun with them, too.
